What is Meterbox?
Meterbox is a usage-based billing platform for AI and software companies: metering, entitlements, credits, and billing as one system you configure, not five systems you reconcile. It runs in-cluster (in your own environment or ours) so metering sits in the request path instead of behind an external API call.
How does Meterbox's own pricing work?
Three plans: Free ($300 of usage credit, up to 10 customers), Pay as you go ($249/month, up to 500 customers and 10M events/month included), and Enterprise (custom contract, unlimited customers, custom SLA). Every plan includes the full API surface; nothing is feature-gated.
What happens if I go over my plan's included usage?
On Free, metering calls are rejected (a 402 response) once your $300 credit or 10-customer limit is used up, until you upgrade; nothing is auto-billed. On Pay as you go, usage bills automatically instead of blocking: $10 per additional 1M events and $0.30 per customer past the included 500, with no manual intervention required.
Can I self-host Meterbox?
Yes. The Self-Managed tier deploys the same APIs into your own cloud (EKS, GKE, AKS, k3s, OpenShift, or on-prem) with a bundled database and cache, no managed services required. It supports bring-your-own KMS, Vault, or Sealed Secrets, and can run fully air-gapped with any outbound integration (Stripe, Zuora, webhooks) disabled per environment.
Where does my data live?
In-cluster, by design. Meterbox doesn't require external managed datastores. Database, cache, and backups run alongside the application in the same environment. On Cloud, each tenant gets a fully isolated data plane (separate compute, storage, and database); on Self-Managed or Managed, it never leaves infrastructure you control.
What compliance certifications does Meterbox have?
Cloud is SOC 2 Type II. Self-Managed is HIPAA-ready with an ISO 27001 path. The Managed (sovereign) tier targets FedRAMP Moderate (in progress), HIPAA, GDPR data residency, and ISO 27001, with an annual external pentest report shared directly with you.
Do you support multi-region deployment?
Yes, on Pay as you go and Enterprise plans. Multi-region starts at $49/month on top of your plan price.
Which billing providers does Meterbox integrate with?
Stripe and Zuora are both supported out of the box for subscription and invoice collection. You can also disable outbound billing-provider integrations entirely per environment if you'd rather handle collection yourself.
Is there a free trial?
There's a Free plan instead of a time-boxed trial: $300 of usage credit and up to 10 customers, with the full API surface, in-cluster metering, and ledger/statements included. Upgrade whenever you outgrow it or run out of credit.
